  • New to Chess

    Our INTRO class enables students to learn the basic rules of chess including piece movements, check, and checkmate. Upon completing our INTRO class, they are promoted to Pawn Rank

  • Pawn Beginner Level

    USCF Unrated-199

    Students must understand the concepts of pieces, checkmate, and castling to join the pawn level. They will also learn basic tactics such as pins and forks.

    The Bishop Rank is for students who have had about 12 months of competitive chess experience and/or have been taking formal lessons for more than 12 months.

  • USCF 600-899

    Students at the Rook Rank should have had 2-3 years of formal chess lessons and tournament experience. They should be able to name and play over a dozen basic tactics and openings.

    The Queen Rank is designated for students who have undergone extensive chess training and gained tournament experience commensurate with their age.

    King is intended for students aspiring to achieve chess mastery. The class, taught by National Master Christopher Toolin and Chess Expert David Gaston.

Program Information

  • Class Structure

    Each class includes a 20-minute interactive lesson, a 10-minute Master Game for review, a 10-minute worksheet to reinforce concepts, and a 20-minute play segment for creative application in a relaxed setting.

  • Billing Details

    Your payment renews monthly on your original payment date. There are no fees to sign up, cancel, pause, or switch plans. Get $25 off per month with sibling registration by selecting the sibling add-on at checkout. Use our form to manage your plan. Manage Plan

  • Trial Period

    Your free trial lasts for 10 consecutive calendar days starting from the day you sign up, not 10 classes. During this period, you may attend one in-person group class per week and one play night. Online classes and other premium features are not available until the trial ends. After the 10-day trial, your selected membership plan will automatically begin, charges will apply, and no refunds or extensions are offered for unused trial days. If you prefer full access right away, you can choose to skip the trial and start your membership immediately.

  • Promotion

    Students are promoted based on their US Chess rating, exam score, and/or coaches' recommendations. Each student may take the promotion test only once every 30 days

  • Open Play

    Open Play is a weekly event where players gather to play chess and practice. It is open to anyone with a Play Plan or a Standard or Premier membership. We provide all the necessary equipment!

  • Referral Program

    If you refer new members to our program and they enroll in any of our group class plans online, you may be eligible for a $50 check or credit toward your account. This referral bonus is exclusively available to current group class program members.
