Nate Gandara

Nate is a dedicated chess coach that began his chess journey at the age of 18. During his time of playing chess, he also served as the founder and president of the Chess Club at Sam Houston State University. His passion for chess is not only in competition, he also enjoys helping grow students' passion for the game.

With six years of teaching experience, Nate began his career as a music educator before expanding into chess instruction. He has volunteered and taught in a variety of educational settings, both public and private schools, and has worked students with complete beginners to advanced players.

A graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in Music, Nate combines his background in the arts with his love for chess to make an enviornment that fosters focus, creativity and persistence. He enjoys helping students discover their own style of thinking and build confidence both on and off the board.
