Presidents’ Day & Bellaire Scholastics

Running side by side, Texas Chess Center celebrates the holiday in the DFW and in Houston with a scholastic tournament for each location! With a holiday packed weekend from Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day, and Lunar New Year (welcome to the Year of the Fire Horse!), we’re so grateful our players came out and decided to spend this special day with us! TCC is happy to see chess flourishing among our youth, with our fifty-three players in the DFW and our thirty-five players in Houston.

To our Presidents’ Day elementary school winners, we want to take a moment and recognize first our U600 section: congratulations Harris Baig and Aiden Puram both for a fantastic 3/4 win in third and second place, and congratulations to Siddharth Mohunthan for a clean 4/4 sweep! In our Open Elementary section, congratulations to Ian Choi and Leon Samuel Knight with fantastic 3/4 scores and to Abhyuday Shrivastava with a 3.5 first place win! In our middle school/high school section, we also have great performances from Sanjay Shankar and Ajaneesh Matham with 3/4 scores, and an outstanding performance from Sushanthram Kasa with 4/4 for first place in the U1000 section. And in our High-Middle Championsip section, we have another amazing 3/4 from Ashrith Jammula and Anvit Karkala, only bested by Will Chow holding a 4/4 for the final scores.

We haven’t forgotten our Bellaire chess players either, who came out full throttle for Bellaire’s first scholastic ever! Congratulations to some great performances in our Elementary U600 section with Robert Grayson in third with a 3/5, and Ander Drunsic and Ari Drob in second and first with 3.5/4 wins! And to our players in the Combined Championship section, congratulations Shai Levin-Srinivasan and Christopher Zeng with fabulous 3/4s and to Ryan Tariq with a clean 4/4 to secure first place!
